Here is some useful information on how to locate our 3 regular meeting venues, for members and guests travelling by car or public transport.

Venue Address:

Derbyshire County Council Chesterfield Library
New Beetwell Street
Chesterfield
Derbyshire
S40 1QN

Telephone: (01629) 533400

Our regular meeting venue is the Lecture Theatre at the Chesterfield Central Library on New Beetwell Street.

This is part of the Pavements Shopping Centre, just off the Market Place.

The Library is directly opposite the main Bus Station (buses from Nottingham and Derby stop a few yards away), and is approximately 10 minutes' walk from Chesterfield Train Station.

A wide variety of facilities are available at the Library; including a cafe, serving hot/cold snacks and drinks. Most members gather in this area before the lecture begins.

Venue Address:

The Nottingham Mechanics
3 North Sherwood Street
Nottingham
NG1 4EZ

Telephone: 0115 941 7353

Our regular meeting venue is the New Mechanics, situated on North Sherwood Street in the City Centre, across the road from the Central Fire Station.

Victoria Centre Bus Station is 5 minutes' walk away, whilst the nearest NET Tram stops ('Royal Centre' and 'Nottingham Trent University') are both about 3-4 minutes' walk.

If arriving by train at Nottingham Station, it is a 15 minutes' walk through the City Centre or a short tram ride from the Station Street terminus. Again, tram passengers should alight at either 'Royal Centre' or 'Nottingham Trent University'.

As parking can be difficult in the City Centre (especially on Saturdays), we do recommend that visitors arriving by car should use one of Nottingham's excellent Park & Ride facilities. Phoenix Park or The Forest Park & Ride sites are the most convenient from the M1 motorway, being a short tram ride to the Royal Centre or Nottingham Trent University stops.

For those who do need to park nearer the venue, car parking is available in the Victoria Centre, Trinity Square or Royal Centre multi-storeys. There is no car parking at the Mechanics itself and local streets are strictly controlled..

There is an excellent restaurant at the Mechanics, offering a range of hot and cold meals and snacks, together with a licensed bar.

All Facilities are open to SSAE members and guests on Society lecture days.
